Although I am not a fan of wearing a calculator on my wrist, Apple Watch turned out to be the one of the life changing choices. Being a fan of traditional chronograph that better compliments my cufflinks, shifting to an Apple Watch was quite a far fetched idea.
As the inertia was far too high to pursue me to buy one, my partner decided to rather gift one instead. If it were before the COVID lockdown being a regular runner, I would have been excited about it’s fitness tracking features but now there was nothing exciting in particular.
But little did I know that it would become an integral part of my life with the unanticipated impact it creates.
Discipline and Consistency with Routine
With pathetic battery, it lasts one day with nominal features and takes about 090/120 minutes to charge. To accommodate this charging cycle in routine while managing to track most of your daily activities, you need to carve out a silent two hour window. And these extra two hours early in the morning turned to be a very valuable for me as it gave me a quiet focus time to either pull off some extra work or learn something!
Or use battery saver with functions of digital watch or perhaps switched off and as useful as a dial watch
Better Tracking of Time for Efficiency
Have you ever lost track of time and spent more time on certain things? Or wish you had not lost track of time in the meeting? Well with a timer on your wrist with silent haptics – you can remind yourself when to pull the brakes. Also this turned out to be very helpful with yoga and body weight workouts!
And if not for meetings, you can definitely time your naps!
Sleep Tracking and Haptic Alarms
With the latest OS, it facilitates sleep tracking along with smart haptic alarm that wakes you up in between sleep cycles (google: circadian rhythm) when your sleep is shallow based on your heart rate. For someone like myself who has inconsistent sleep timings to ensure waking up while compromising with sleep time, this is a boon!
And you can finally shut or snooze your morning alarms from your wrist rather than getting up to reach your phone!
Social Currency to keep Moving
Burning calories is difficult but with fitness data sharing with your friend accompanied with Fitness Challenges and Achievement Badges this reminded me of the good old days of FourSquare app! Either the encouragement to lead the league or just the embarrassment of being the last one on the list will drive you to more more!
If nothing exciting is happening, perhaps stand goal can be your big achievement for the week!
Finally the Apps and Features
In my case, the only notifications allowed on my watch are phone calls, calendar events and reminders. This along with programmable watch faces does wonders in daily productivity. Although there are a myriad of applications which you can use on your app rather than your mobile phone, just the sheer convenience of being able to control things from your watch rather than picking up your mobile phone is just amazing!
Finally with the sheer number of features and time you carry it on your wrist, this is by far the most bang for the buck!
Disregard to what you want, Apple Watch surely has something!
