Sustainable Living – Conserve to Survive

Global Warming, Are we destroying the planet? Or just threatening our existence?

The urgency of saving the planet can’t be ignored; with drastic climate changes across the globe & rising sea levels it’s an elephant in the room.

Global Warming is not just about rising temperatures & sea level but its way beyond that. The issue is what follows; changing climate patterns have lead to crop failures, even a slight rise in global temperatures poses a threat to certain crop cultivation like potatoes which need a cold weather, coffee plantations in Brazil & a lot more. Along with everything else, imagine food shortage & population boom!

Sustainability is no longer an issue limited to organizations & governments; it’s now an individual responsibility. It’s already 2013 & it’s too late.

Your wealth is temporary; don’t acquire it at the cost of future generations.

Trends today have changed & little change in your lifestyle would help a lot. Like carrying a water bottle instead of buying packaged drinking water, which was a mark of prestige but now is gaining a pariah status just because of the carbon that goes into its manufacturing.

Changing conventional lamps to LEDs not only saves you a few watts every hour but also the carbon that goes into the manufacturing & packaging of those gas filled lamps which need quarterly replacements. Instead of buying a SUV or sedan to drive in the city, a low powered hybrid would suffice. In the office, use fountain pens with water based inks, recycled paper and cardboard files & holders. Opt for greener products whenever possible.

But most important part is controlling waste. A lot of carbon goes into the managing & processing of waste, even if it’s recyclable. We are also falling short of places to dump our waste. So consume as much as needed & waste as little as possible and reuse whenever possible.

Spending a little more for greener products & solutions and changing your lifestyle a bit would mean a lot for our planet & future generations.
